Somerset Festivals!

As a sociable county, if there is an excuse Somerset will celebrate, be it the failed gunpowder plot, a bumper apple harvest, a stack of sheep hurdles or a flying a kite. Somerset’s festivals include the world famous Glastonbury (originally Pilton Pop), Frome Festival which lasts ten days and Queen Caturn’s Night in Watchet which is over in a few hours. Among the more usual activities are wassailing, squibbing and dancing hobby horses.
As might be expected in a rural county, there are many festivals linked to food and farming including one of the best harvest time festivals in the country held at Burnham on Sea. There are also literary and arts festivals as Somerset is gaining its cultural credentials with new galleries opening and a flourishing artists’ community.
