The mix of heath on the top is a characteristic of the Quantocks and includes heather, whortleberry, gorse, bracken and wavy-haired grass. There is woodland too, once prized as a source of timber for ship building and now by walkers for its tranquillity. The oaks here are Sessile with acorns that grow directly on the branch and twisted trunks.

Glenda Spooner Farm is a rescue and rehabilitation centre, caring for up to 80 horses and ponies at once. Located in 220 acres of unspoilt countryside, there farm walks, behind-the-scenes tours, a coffee shop, outdoor playground and picnic area, second-hand tack shop and regular equine and canine events.
Ferne Animal Sanctuary is set within 72 acres of beautiful & protected countryside, in the Blackdown Hills on the Devon/Somerset border. This charitable sanctuary takes in unwanted, abandoned and neglected animals and gives them a fantastic life either at the sanctuary or by finding them a special forever home.
