Twenty-two studios and a multifunctional gallery event space

The Silk Mill is situated right in the centre of Frome in one of the best preserved textile mills in the area. The 4 storey listed building had been abandoned for 30 years and was on the ‘Buildings at Risk Register’ before the Moore family began its rescue in 2005.

The 22 studios are now occupied by highly talented artists and makers from a wide variety of disciplines from a double bass luthier to glass artists, print makers, painters, dressmakers and jewellers. The Frome Art School (formed in 2022) is based in Silk Mill West and hosts courses and workshops. 

The top-lit gallery hosts exhibitions, gigs, theatrical productions, private events and markets. For Frome Festival in July an outside stage is erected for events throughout the 10 days. 

People say that it feels like being in Spain or Italy when they sit on the west facing terrace on a sunny summer’s evening.
