NAZF Trustee Role
Our Trustees are responsible for the sustainability of Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm – its strategy, finances, policies, people, and legal commitments – in pursuit of its charitable aims.
The principal responsibilities of Trustees, as set out by the Charity Commission, are to:
  • Ensure that the charity is carrying out its purposes for the public benefit.
  • Act in the charity’s best interests.
  • Comply with the charity’s constitution and the law.
  • Manage the charity’s resources responsibility.
  • Act with reasonable care and skill.
  • Ensure the charity is accountable.
As a Trustee at Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm, this means you will work with the other Trustees to:
  • Contribute actively to the development and pursuit of the zoo’s strategy, setting overall direction and evaluating impact in the context of the vision and mission of the zoo.
  • Develop the policies, values, and objectives of the zoo and ensure these are implemented and lived.
  • Ensure that the zoo provides a safe environment for all and that appropriate safeguarding measures are in place.
  • Ensure that appropriate financial planning, management, and controls are in place and that actual and projected financial performance is properly reported to enable appropriate decisions to be made.
  • Regularly review the level and nature of risks facing the zoo and ensure that effective measures are taken to avoid, manage or control them.
Our constitution defines the composition of our Board and the rules for appointing Trustees.  Trustees are appointed for a term of three years and can be reappointed at the end of the three years (subject to being approved by the other Trustees) – for up to a maximum of three terms.
Board meetings are held, either on zoom or at the zoo, six to nine times a year.  Trustees devote around five hours for each meeting 2-3 for the meeting itself and 2-3 for preparation.  Trustees are also expected to contribute on two days a year for strategic and business planning meetings at the zoo.
Trustees receive no remuneration, but expenses can be claimed.
