Mendip Guardian – Two or Three night

The Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty attracts many visitors for a wide assortment of reasons. We all want to preserve this unique landscape and the community within it and many visitors take away a sense of ownership and loyalty.
This itinerary delves deeper into some of these thoughts, enabling a better understanding of one of Somerset’s prized assets.
You arrive in the charming market town of Axbridge at the Oakhouse Hotel. It is only a few steps to the National Trust property, King John’s Hunting Lodge (closed in winter). 
The Mendip Hills are ideal for walking so you now take the West Mendip Way from Shipham to Loxton (via Crook Peak) 5.5 miles - More HERE
Take some lunch at the Webbington Hotel which has some panoramic south-facing views to the Somerset Levels and coast.
Return to Shipham and also check some easy views from Dolebury Hill Fort. HERE 
Overnight, return to Oakhouse or to another option HERE 

Day two gives you the opportunity to learn more about the cider culture here in Somerset at Thatchers Cider shop. HERE 
You can also see a vineyard at Aldwick Estate and fish or nature-watch around Blagdon Lake. 
The popular Ring O’Bells at Compton Martin can tell many a tale and is our suggested lunch stop.
For the afternoon you can learn about the historic village of Priddy as part of the Priddy and Deer Leap Walk - More HERE 
And for your final night a choice of hotels in the city of Wells.
For day 3, we remain in Wells for touring around the Bishop’s Palace, Cathedral and Museum, as well as the market on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
