Capturing the beauty of Brean

06 Sep 2023

Visit Brean, in partnership with the Quantock Landscape Partnership Scheme (QLPS), hosted a successful photo walk on Brean Down in August. This event brought together 16 participants of all ages from local towns to explore the picturesque Brean Down and the historic Palmerston fort that graces the Somerset Coast, with views across to the Quantock Hills and beyond.

Visit Brean, dedicated to promoting the beauty and attractions of Brean on the Somerset Coast to both holidaymakers and day visitors, joined forces with QLPS, a National Heritage Lottery Funded initiative working on the Quantock Hills. Together, they organised this enriching experience that showcased the nature and history of Brean.

The photo walk covered a scenic route of just over 3 miles, allowing participants to immerse themselves in the breath-taking landscapes that make Brean a hidden gem along the Bristol Channel. With a focus on health and wellbeing, the event encouraged participants to connect with nature and view the area through the lens of their camera. With panoramic views, they were able to see key Somerset attractions such as the Quantock Hills and Glastonbury Tor, as well as the old Birnbeck pier in Weston-super-Mare and Steep and Flat Holm in the Bristol Channel.

Alison Ricketts who was on the walk, said, "It was so lovely to join the photo walk at Brean. It really is a hidden treasure on the Somerset Coast, and it was lovely to rediscover its beauty. The views from Brean Fort were spectacular and I’ll definitely be back.”

Following the walk, everyone gathered at a local café, where they enjoyed delicious ice cream and refreshing drinks, and shared their experiences of the morning.

"We are delighted to have partnered with the Quantock Landscape Partnership Scheme for this photo walk," said a spokesperson for Visit Brean. "Brean has so much to offer, and this event allowed us to share its beauty and heritage with a wider audience. We look forward to continuing our efforts to promote this beautiful and family-friendly destination."
