As the name suggests, the Oak House is an oak framed cabin situated on the edge of a wood and surrounded by old oak trees.
The fully equipped kitchen has an induction hob, oven, and dishwasher.
There is a wood burning stove with wood provided for the first fire.
The bedroom has a kingsize bed (the headboard is made from an oak branch which fell from one of our trees in a storm
Next to this is a bathroom with full size power shower.
The whole building is open to the roof except for the area above the bathroom which can be accessed by ladder and has a single mattress for an occasional extra guest. The Oak House is full of light from large windows overlooking the wood and stunning views to the west.
The house is centrally heated with hot water on demand. There are games and books but no television (too many trees for reception) but that might be a good thing! There is a WiFi internet connection, linked to the main house. All linen and towels are provided as is everything you might need in the kitchen and bathroom.
Outside, there is a covered open porch for boots and for sitting out a shower in comfy chairs. Attached to the house is an octagonal deck with table and chairs for al fresco meals or a glass of wine while you admire the views. . Just below is a barbecue and a fire pit (but you might have to saw up your own wood!).
The Oak House was built with mostly reclaimed material by design although the plumbing and electrical equipment are new. The roof is clad in recycled Cornish slate, the floor is made from used but sanded scaffolding planks, the bathroom sink came from a school laboratory (suitably cleaned up!) and the shower is tiled in reject Burlington slate. The eclectic furniture is all carefully sourced with comfort and design in mind. We hope you like it.
