PROGRAMME 2024 Tuesday 6th February 2.30pm - Trick or Treat: Forgeries in the Art Market Richard Kay is a director of Lawrences Auctioneers and their specialist in paintings, drawings, watercolours and prints. Tuesday 12th March 2.30pm - The Making of Landscape Photography Charlie Waite is one of the world's leading landscape photgraphers. DAYS OF SPECIAL INTEREST Thursday 21st March 10am - 3pm Art Deco - Pamela Campbell-Johnston Prevalent during the 1920's and 1930's, Art Deco has the reputation of being the most glamorous and popukar style of the 20th century. This special interest day will review the developemnt of the style within the context of it's social and economic environment. Tuesday 9th April 2.30pm - The Enigma of Edward Elgar Roger Askew combined a teaching career with professional singing and became Director of Music at Daniel Stewart's and Melville College in Edinburgh. Tuesday 7th May 2.30pm - The Brilliance of Brunel: The man who built the modern world Ian Swankie has a passion for art and architecture. He is a qualified and active freelance London guide. Tuesday 4th June 2.30pm - The Baroque Country House Amy Lim is art historian and curator specialising in British fine and decorative arts from the 17th to 20th centuries. Tuesday 2nd July 2.30pm - The Trials and Tribulations of Vincent van Goch as seen through his works Carole Petipher is a guide and lecturer on combined history and art tours who likes to "delve behind the scenes to discover hidden truths". Tuesday 1st October 2.30pm - Rubens; "Painter of Princes, Princeo of Painters" Lois Oliver studied History of Art at the Courtauld Institute and is currently Curator of Paintings and Sculpture at the Royal Academy. Tuesday 5th November 2.30pm - Banksy: Fraud or Genius? Pepe Martinez is a qualified blue badge guide who specialises in graffiti and street art. DAYS OF SPECIAL INTEREST Thursday 21st November 10am - 3pm The British Empire and Imperial India - John Stevens How did th British view themselves and their subjects in the era of Imperialism? We will look at the British Empire and Imperial art in the 19th and 20th centuries and go on to focus on Imperial India. Finally there will be a detailed look at life and art of Rabindranath Tagore, one of India's cultural giants. Tuesday 3rd December 12noon - The 12 Plants of Christmas Timothy Walker was Director of the University of Oxford Botanic Garden and is now a college lecturer and tutir at Somerville College. Meet for a cup of coffee or a chat at 1.30pm before the lecture. The Society reserves the right to cancel or change a lecture at short notice.
