All Attractions

Attractions in Somerset come in all shapes and sizes so you’ll find yourself spoilt for choice.

Some are natural, some manufactured.

Some are up to the minute and some have been drawing the crowds since Roman times.

A largely rural county, some of Somerset’s best known attractions are related to its landscape.

We are lucky enough to have a coast and in recent times it has given rise to a number of resorts and holiday parks with amusements, rides, seaside piers and eateries.

There is also room for long stretches that are less discovered which offer the chance of quiet walks and contemplation.

As well as a coast, Somerset has three Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (and a corner of a fourth) and a National Park – Exmoor National Park.

These natural gems are perfect for exploring on foot, bicycle or horseback.

Our rural heritage has given us several fascinating crafts such as making willow baskets and cider and these are on show in various Visitor Attractions.

With our towns and villages immersed in history it is not surprising that even our smallest have their own museums and galleries such as Axbridge and Watchet.

The larger centres have ample opportunities too for absorbing culture or for spending holiday money in the malls and designer outlets.

With some of our attractions it is not so much about arriving as the journey itself as we have not one but four heritage railways not to mention boat trips to islands in the Bristol Channel or along rivers and canals.
