Godminster Cheese

Here at Godminster, we create award-winning Vintage Organic Cheddar to a 90-year-old recipe. Our shop is open seven days a week and we have cheese available to sample every day. There is free parking outside, so come and taste for yourself why Godminster has so many loyal friends around the world. We also offer fruit-infused vodka spirits, and over 18s are welcome to try those too.  If you’re looking for a lovely foodie gift or a delicious souvenir of your trip to Somerset, come and take your pick from our range.

Godminster’s Vintage Organic Cheddar is a deliciously soft and creamy cheddar matured for up to 12 months, at which point we select the best cheese to be made into one of our award-winning truckles.

This sumptuous cheese is encased in the iconic burgundy wax to emphasise its pedigree and truly special status. The cheese is full bodied with a long, nutty, savoury bite.  We also offer an Oak-Smoked Vintage Organic Cheddar, which sees the same top quality cheddar smoked over sustainably sourced oak chippings. The cheddar has a rich depth of flavour and the smokiness is evenly balanced with the acidity of the cheddar.

Godminster Farm is set on the outskirts of the town of Bruton, whose historic pedigree is recorded in the Doomsday Book of 1086. The Farm was registered as organic in 1999 and now boasts orchards with cider apples, peaches, nectarines and grapes, whilst keenly observing Soil Association and Government regulations relating to animal husbandry and the environmentally varied approach to business.

The farm boasts a herb garden that enhances the natural remedies used to treat cows on the farm, 15 ponds supporting bio-diversity, and reeds which filter ground water. 25,000 broadleaf trees have been planted at the Farm since owner Richard Hollingbery took over, fostering diverse habitats and encouraging increases in the wildlife population.

The cows at Godminster Farm enjoy a simple and wholesome life. Richard sees them as the foundations for a truly holistic approach to his business, with the Farm’s milk turned into Godminster Vintage Organic Cheddar.  Our mantra is "Nature repays those who treat her kindly," and that ethos runs across the business.
