Celebrated plantswoman, the late Margery Fish’s unique, informal and immensely charming Grade-1 listed English cottage garden. With noted collections of snowdrops, hellebores and geraniums, specialist plant nursery, cafe and gallery.
Just four minutes from the A303 at South Petherton, near Yeovil, can be found one of England’s best loved cottage gardens created by the celebrated plantswoman and gardening writer Margery Fish between 1938 and 1969. Her talent for combining old-fashioned and contemporary plants in a relaxed and informal manner has created a unique and extraordinary garden of great beauty and charm. Now Grade-1 listed and internationally famous, the garden is renowned as the premier example of the English cottage garden style and is noted for its snowdrops, hellebores and hardy geraniums. It featured on BBC Gardeners' World, episode 15, in 2017 as the garden is much loved by presenter Carol Klein, with Margery Fish one of her 'horticultural heroes'. East Lambrook Manor is also home to the Malthouse Gallery, which holds occasional exhibitions of work by local artists, and the Margery Fish Plant Nursery, which specialises in herbaceous perennials, including of course Margery Fish’s beloved geraniums. On South Somerset Cycle Route and National Cycle Network routes 30 and 33.
