Bath Assembly Rooms, Bennett Street, BA1 2QH, Bath

Description

Designed by John Wood the Younger, the Bath Assembly Rooms is a Grade 1 listed building that's part of the UNESCO World Heritage city of Bath. The New or Upper Rooms as they were known, provided a place for people to meet and enjoy daily entertainments including balls, concerts, teas and gambling. ‘Polite society’ flocked to the Rooms, including novelists Jane Austen and Charles Dickens, and the painter Thomas Gainsborough.

Bath Assembly Rooms, National Trust
Bath Assembly Rooms were at the heart of fashionable Georgian society, the perfect venue for entertainment. When completed in 1771, they were described as 'the most noble and elegant of any in the kingdom'.

The National Trust has owned Bath Assembly Rooms since 1931 and in March 2023 took on the day to day management of this historic building. Work is underway to create an experience that will transport visitors back to the social scene of Georgian Bath in the late eighteenth-century, whilst remaining open during this transition as much as possible with special events, tours and programming.

The Trust is planning and creating a new visitor offer which will transport you to Georgian Bath through an interactive experience. Explore the allure of assembly, chance and opportunity that came with a Georgian Ball. Bath Assembly Rooms will continue to be a place for assembly, connection and entertainment, welcoming in Bath’s visitors and residents.
