Food, Drink & more Somerset produce!
41 Lower Odcombe, BA22 8TX
A chocolate box thatched pub with an outstanding reputation for food and service in a quiet village close to Yeovil. With en suite rooms, Shepherds hut, luxurious cottage, campsite and microbrewery on site as well as a pretty beer garden and wood fired pizza oven it has just about something for everyone!
The Masons Arms in Odcombe has been lovingly developed by the current owners, Paula and Drew, over the last 15 years and now boasts 6 en suite bed and breakfast rooms, a self catering cottage, Shepherds Hut, campsite, wood fired pizza oven, takeaway service and a microbrewery!
We have a well deserved reputation locally for providing excellent meals and fabulous service providing an ambience and hospitality in the age old tradition of English Inns and have recently been awarded an AA rosette for culinary excellence by the AA. The menu changes seasonally and further choice is available through daily specials, we use local suppliers for the majority of our produce, supporting smaller, family owned businesses wherever possible. We have a productive garden producing fruit, herbs and vegetables to utilise in the kitchen so the chefs can often be seen gathering produce in the summer.
We are open daily for breakfast from 8am until 11.00am for non residents, guests staying with us can start a little earlier at 7.30am, and we offer a sumptuous menu including a traditional full English breakfast, Eggs Benedict and American style pancakes with bacon and maple syrup as well as vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. For residents wishing to leave earlier or prefering breakfast in your room we are happy to provide a breakfast tray the night before.
We serve lunch from 12-2pm and evening meals from 6.30pm-9.30pm Monday to Friday. On Saturdays we are open all day serving the main menu at the usual times but pizza is available all day from 12-9.30pm. Sundays we offer our Sunday menu from 12-9pm offering traditional roasts alongside other main courses and snacks. We also have our wood fired pizza oven and offer a takeaway service for stone baked pizza and a fish and chip menu, pizza is also available to eat in the pub, our lovely garden or cosy thatched hut complete with fairy lights, heater and blankets for chillier evenings! The garden itself is a pretty and sheltered area with stunning flower borders, perfect for al fresco dining or a drink on a summers evening.
Wood fired pizza oven and takeaway open;
Thursday: 5pm - 9.30pm
Friday: 5pm - 9.30pm
Saturday: 12pm - 9.30pm
Sunday: 5pm - 9.30pm.
The brewery was established in 2000 by a previous owner and we resurrected it in December 2005 with help from Shepherd Neame. We have four ales regularly available namely Odcombe No.1 at 4% abv, Odcombe Spring at 4.1% abv, Roly Poly at 4.2% abv and Drewers Broop at 4.3%. We also have two seasonal ales, Winters Tail at 4.3% abv and Half Jack at 3.8% abv, they are mostly named after my dogs and they have their picture on the front, guessing the breed of each dog is a popular pastime amongst new guests!
To complement our menu we offer an excellent wine list and range of bottled beers, spirits and soft drinks. Wherever possible we try to use family owned companies and products without additives. Whether you are a driver, a drinker or a diner we are sure to have something to suit your palate.
The Mason Arms, Near Yeovil, Somerset, has 6 rooms, all on the ground floor (although there are a few steps along the corridor) and they are situated next to the garden and away from the road, not that there is much traffic in Odcombe!
Our rooms are furnished to luxury standard with oak furniture, bathrobes, free toiletries, mini fridge with complimentary water and bottled beer, ceiling fan for those long hot English summers (!) as well as a desk area with direct dial telephone and internet access.
We have the following room choices:
- 1 single with ensuite
- 2 doubles with en-suite bath/shower
- 1 double with walk-in shower (suitable for people with mild disabilities)
- 1 twin with bath/shower
- 1 family room with bath/shower (double bed and a double sofa bed which is suitable for either 2 children under 12 years old or 1 adult).
We serve a fabulous breakfast of cereals, croissants, cooked breakfast using local produce and free range eggs accompanied by juice, tea and coffee. It's a meal sure to set you up for your day! Breakfast is served for residents between 7.30am and 10am in the main restaurant area. A breakfast tray can be provided in your room if you prefer with cereals, fruit, yoghurt and juice, please just ask a member of staff the night before and they will arrange for it to be delivered ready for the morning.
Dogs are welcome to stay with you in our accommodation for a small charge of £10 per night (this covers up to 3 dogs per room). A Doggy Welcome Pack will be waiting for their arrival with a dog bed, blanket, water bowl, feeding mat and a guide with local information including walks from the pub. We also have an enclosed dedicated exercise area so you can allow them off lead safely.
At all other times we ask that you keep your dog on lead for the safety and comfort of other dogs and guests. I am likely to have anything else you might have forgotten or need such as towels or spare leads, please just ask. Your dog can be left in your room or join you for your meals including breakfast.
If you like camping but miss the comforts of home our bespoke shepherds hut, The Bolthole, is for you. Our hand built shepherds hut is perfect for either a romantic break or just a well needed escape from the bustle of daily life. Inside it is fully equipped with washroom, table and chairs, TV, underfloor heating and log burner.
Located in a quiet corner of our camping field, a quick look out the window will give you glimpses of our pet rabbits, your own garden with BBQ and seating area. You will really be enjoying nature in luxury. Why not treat yourselves to a luxury glamping experience which includes our sumptuous breakfast in the morning. In the summer enjoy the warm evenings relaxing in your private garden and in Winter light the log burner and stay cosy inside!
Located just a short stroll away from the pub our one bedroom cottage has undergone an extensive renovation to a luxury standard. The lounge has chunky bespoke sawn pine furniture, leather Chesterfield and log burner creating a luxurious ambience. Totally self contained, like a home from home but also just yards from The Masons Arms means that although the cottage is self-catering you have the option of eating out for a totally relaxing stay. It has a sheltered fully enclosed garden a few yards from the front door and parking is in the pub car park. It can also be booked on a bed and breakfast basis if you feel like treating yourselves each morning!
Our campsite is peacefully situated well away from the road overlooking open fields, we have 14 pitches in the summer, 8 with electrical hook ups and a large hard standing area allowing the site to be open all year. The campsite has a unisex shower block with 2 toilets, 2 showers, 3 sinks, wash up area, hairdryer and iron and ironing board. Each pitch is clearly marked out with a minimum size of 8x9m and many larger pitches, and overlooks open fields. It is part sloping with a large flat area at the bottom with plenty of electrical hook up points. We also have FREE Wi-Fi on the site. Unfortunately due to access issues, there is a tight turning into the site, we no longer accept caravans. Motorhomes, campervans and trailer tents are welcome and of course tents. The advantage of staying here is that you are able to enjoy a lovely meal in the pub with maybe a drink or two and no concerns as to who is driving home!
There is also a lovely farmshop just a short stroll through the village at Greensleeves nursery stocking the essentials such as milk and butter as well as local fruit and vegetables. There is plenty to do in the area with beaches within 45 minutes, National Trust properties close by, excellent walking on your doorstep and pretty towns for shopping just a short drive away. We are only 5 minutes from Yeovil which has 2 train stations and a bus station as well as good road links to the rest of the South West. Whether you just want to break your journey or stay and explore South Somerset and all its attractions you can be sure of a warm welcome from us.
