At Rich’s Cider Farm we have been making Somerset cider since 1954. Gordon and Betty Rich came to Mill Farm, Watchfield, over 60 years ago and began pressing Somerset apples to produce Rich’s Traditional Farmhouse Cider. We harvest apples from local orchards in Somerset, pressing the apples on the farm using the original presses and the rack and cloth method. The juice is then matured in our aged oak vats, before being bottled and packaged on the farm. Rich’s Cider Farm is open to the public all year round. We are a family friendly attraction located only 2 miles from junction 22, and have disabled access to all public areas. Please note we only make the cider in the Autumn, you will see our trailers arriving full of apples, and will sometimes be able to see the cider being pressed. It is always worth watching when the apples are being tipped into the bay… the accuracy of the tip depends solely on who is behind the controls! We offer tours for coach parties that book in advance. (Weekdays only) The Cider Shop Our draft ciders come straight from the barrel so you can ‘try before you buy’. The shop also stocks a superb range of food, drinks and gifts. We are passionate about supporting local suppliers and have specially selected everything from our locally made pottery, to local cheese, chutneys and honey! Vintage farm machinery gallery We have a small collection of vintage farm machinery and cider making equipment showing the history of Rich’s Cider. Don’t forget to have a look at our beautifully restored Bedford lorry that has been in the family since 1939. The Cider Press Restaurant We are open seven days a week 8.30am – 5pm serving breakfasts, lunch, homemade cakes and desserts, cream teas and our famous carvery! Our carvery is now served seven days a week. We serve locally sourced, freshly prepared food in our ‘open plan’ kitchen. Here you can watch our cooks busy baking homemade cakes, desserts & pies. As supporters of local farmers and producers, we aim to provide you with a ‘True Taste of Somerset.’ It is advisable to book in advance for our popular Sunday carvery. Next to the restaurant, we also have a children’s play area to entertain the little ones. Leg Bender Cider Shop Our other cider shop is located in Cheddar Gorge, next to the Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company. Pop in and try our ciders, browse our range of locally sourced products and have a cup of hot mulled cider!
