Sheppy’s House of Cider
Sheppy’s House of Cider Visitor Centre is nestled between Taunton and Wellington, surrounded by their 90 acres of traditional orchards, and is the beating heart of Somerset’s oldest family-owned cidermaking company. It was in 1816 that David Sheppy’s ancestors picked and pressed the first batch of apples on their Somerset farm and the rest, as they say, is history.

Two centuries later, the Sheppy family are still championing the same methods to make their cider that were used generations ago, balanced with the very best of modern technology. From apple to bottle, their Master of Cider David Sheppy is involved with every drop of cider that bears the Sheppy's name. Experience, instinct and knowledge are key to all of Sheppy’s award-winning ciders.

There is no secret recipe; it's simply about the experience and craftsmanship that has come from 200 years of knowledge and cider making, passed down through six generations of Masters of Cider.

In 2016 the business took the next step in the Sheppy’s Cider evolution and opened the doors of the Sheppy’s House of Cider Visitor Centre, where local fans and tourists alike can discover new and award-winning food and drink while they explore the history of Sheppy’s Cider. The Apple Bay Bar & Restaurant features artisan menus serving only the freshest local ingredients, as well as a range of delicious café treats and coffees. The farm shop encompasses a butcher’s counter and deli, stocking a full range of handmade pastries, cakes and bakes alongside local cheese and meat from our in-house butchers.

From March 2020 visitors will be able to once again join their weekend tours, where expert guides will offer a peek behind the scenes at one of the oldest cidermakers in the world. The guided tours include a visit to the orchards, the press house, the vat house and the Sheppy’s rural life museum, and culminates with a guided tasting of some of their favourite ciders. Tickets can be booked online via Eventbrite or bought in advance in the farm shop.
