Description
We aim to give you a stimulating and enjoyable experience, and our volunteers will provide you with a warm welcome. Find us in the Cathedral Close, in the former home of the Cathedral Chancellors.
Wells & Mendip Museum
Our museum tells the stories of Wells and the Mendip Hills. Our displays include a Jurassic sea dragon, and unique archaeology collections from the Mendip caves, featuring the bones of ancient animals who roamed here thousands of years ago.
Find out about the incredible array of rocks and minerals to be found on the Mendip Hills, and how people have explored its caves.
We have a wonderful collection of embroidery samplers, and tell the story of the early Cathedral stonemasons through a collection of sculpture and statues on loan from the cathedral.
Our temporary exhibitions feature the work of local and well-known artists. We also have a library and are home to the Wells City Archives (both open to researchers by appointment).
The museum shop stocks an array of attractive gifts, cards and books.
