Housed in a small, 15th Century Manor House, Dovery Manor Museum provides a unique insight into the history of the Exmoor village of Porlock and the nearby communities. Explore the beautiful Grade II* listed building, the delightful garden and the fascinating collection of artefacts, photographs, press cuttings and paintings.

Discover a fine example of a small, Grade II* listed, 15th Century Manor House in the delightful Exmoor village of Porlock. The building is partly made of Welsh stone, with handsome beamed ceilings, richly traceried windows and stone fireplaces. It was extensively restored in c1895 by Edmund Buckle for Sir Charles Chadwyck-Healey.

Explore the inner hall with its wonderful fireplace featuring a fine ogee-headed lintel, and then climb the decorated, stone newel staircase to the upper floor.

See local life and history portrayed through artefacts, costume, photographs, ceramics, tools, and domestic items.

Examine our collection of Waistel Cooper’s work. Waistel (1921-2003) was a potter who worked at Culbone for 27 years and gained great respect for his concern with form and texture.

Visit our annual summer exhibitions in the museum Solar, which focus on local events or visiting artists.

Enjoy an evening’s entertainment when the history of the village is brought to life by the Museum Players, through performances of story, song and poetry.

Dovery Manor Museum is keen to engage young people's interest in local history and can open for pre-booked school groups throughout the year. We are a learning destination for the Children's University.
Rest awhile in the museum garden with its wide-ranging views across Porlock to the moors and the sea. It is evolving into a garden which reflects the early days of the Manor, through plants grown for medicinal and culinary use, and its evolution to modern times.
