Dawe's Twineworks

94A High St , West Coker, BA2 29DT

Description

Local volunteers have rescued this factory from dereliction and brought it back to life with its 100 yard long 'walk' and its 1927 oil engine driving original twine-making machinery. Discover our stores about people in our unique archive and in our welcoming new visitor centre - which also serves coffee and cake.

Dawe's Twineworks

The Coker Rope & Sail CIO, in Somerset is a local volunteer-run charity formed to manage the restoration project and to run the site for visitors - individuals, families, schools, and groups. The project began in 2005 when, supported by the Parish Council, the SSDC purchased Dawe's to make rescue possible. All the work has been done by local people and local companies, We have been fortunate to secure grants to make restoration possible, most recently from the Lottery Heritage Fund, but we depend on visitors' donations to run and maintain Dawe's. Our achievement was formally recognised in October 2019 when Historic England removed Dawe's from its 'Heritage at Risk Register' after 25+ years.
