South Esplanade, Burnham On Sea, Somerset, TA8 1BU
Brean Down is a promontory of the Mendips Hills extending 1.5 miles out into the Bristol Channel at the eastern end of Bridgwater Bay with views over to the two small islands of Steep Holm and Flat Holm.
The walk takes you around the Down where people have lived, worked and fought since the Bronze Age. Archaeological highlights include the remains on an ancient Roman-Celtic temple and a Victorian fort.
Brean Down is also rich in wildlife and is a Site of Special Scientific Interest for both its geological significance and the presence of nationally rare plants including the white rock-rose.
