Somerset Food Trail

14 Jul - 30 Jul 2023

Description

A year round map and annual festival helping consumers discover the best of Somerset’s sustainable farms and artisan food producers.

The Somerset Food Trail and annual July festival is an 'open farm’ and farm-to-fork showcase that puts the spotlight on Somerset's smaller-scale, nature-friendly farmers and artisan producers, giving visitors a better understanding of where food comes from and the many benefits of buying local.

Somerset Food Trail
Running this year from Friday 14 – Sunday 30 July 2023, in addition to farm visits and cultural events, foodies will be able to taste the best that the county has to offer at a series of feasts that showcase ingredients supplied by Somerset’s growing band of regenerative farmers and sustainable food producers.  The challenge is to showcase food gleaned and grown within a 30-mile radius – dimishing our carbon footprint and proving that an abundance of produce is available on our doorsteps.

The Festival is particularly keen to include events that showcase cost-effective sources of good food, such as foraging and community growing.  As part of the organising committee, Graham Harvey, an environmental campaigner who for more than 30 years was a script-writer and agricultural story editor on the BBC’s longest-running radio drama, The Archers, says it’s important to recognise that these are “feasts for nature”, with the emphasis being on helping people learn more about where their food comes from.  “Ultimately, we are trying to create a movement that gets consumers to wield the power they have to impact food production, supporting the shift to nature-friendly farming that is vital for our planet.”
