This live event was successfully rescheduled from November 2020 & January 2021
Ursula Franklin has always loved penguins, but when her world fell apart in 2012 they took on a new significance for her.
Ursula embarked on a mission to see every species of penguin in their natural habitat, a journey that has taken her to some of the remotest places in the southern hemisphere. During her ongoing quest, Ursula has combined her favourite penguin photographs with amusing captions and collated these into a small yet hugely inspiring book, ‘The Joy of Penguins’.
Ursula’s portion of the evening will include a charming slide show and short talk about her penguin mission.
Following the success of her first novel, ‘Ellie and the Harpmaker’, Hazel Prior found inspiration for her second book from her friend Ursula’s story. ‘Away with the Penguins’ features the feisty and unstoppable 86-year-old heroine, Veronica McCreedy, and her own journey to enlightenment in Antarctica.
Following Ursula’s talk, Hazel will give a reading with her harp and explain how she researched and wrote the book.
Audience members will be invited to join a fun, penguin-themed discussion with Ursula and Hazel.
Signed copies of both books will be available.
Tickets on sale at Taunton Visitor Centre.
