Everything Stops for Tea

C.S. Lewis, author of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe once said, “You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me”. There are so many quotes about tea, no wonder people once thought it was the English national obsession!

We know there are some people who don’t enjoy a cup of tea, but there are millions who can’t get enough of the stuff, in fact, an estimated 165 million cups of tea are drunk every day in the UK. We enjoy our tea in any number of ways, from a bold builder’s brew to an elegant Earl Grey, there are a multitude of options out there.

“Tea! Bless ordinary everyday afternoon tea!” wrote Agatha Christie, and that leads us to the next point, we are fortunate in Taunton to have a super range of places where we can enjoy a natter and a cuppa with friends, or just quietly on our own while we take a moment for a little self-indulgence. Whether you get one to go, or prefer to sit and sip it out of pretty, vintage china cups we wonder which is your favourite place in Taunton to enjoy a cup of tea? Let us know!

National Tea Day has been running for a few years now, the date of the 21st of April was chosen because it’s the Queen’s birthday, what could be more appropriate to celebrate what is recognised as the country’s national drink.

The slogan for the day is “Brew more. Do more” and the aim is to inspire us to hold fundraising events and think of ways to share some precious time with someone who would appreciate a chat and a few moments of friendly company.

“Yes, that’s it! Said the Hatter with a sigh, it’s always tea time” … (Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland)
