In Devon it’s cream then jam, in Cornwall it’s the other way around but here in Somerset, do we
care? Not one bit! We shall have our cream tea however we fancy!
Started by the Cream Tea Society, National Cream Tea Day is now in its seventh year. It’s a great
opportunity to have a get together, not just to treat ourselves to a mouth-watering cream tea, but
also to use it as a an occasion to host a fund-raising event. The Cream Tea Society’s website has
some good ideas for things to do

We are blessed in the Taunton area with some delightful tearooms where we can enjoy, not just a
cream tea, but outstanding local produce. We also have some award-winning jam and preserve
producers right on our doorstep and we are lucky enough to see their wares at our local markets
and in our independent shops.
So, if you feel like a change from the traditional strawberry jam to go on your fluffy scones, pop
into the Visitor Centre for a jar of Brendon Hills Preserves Whortleberry Jam - now that’s proper
Somerset! Or, if you really feel like something different you could try a spoonful of our delicious
local honey, straight from bee hives next to Vivary Park, dolloped on top of the thick, unctuous,
clotted cream.
It’s not as if we need an excuse to have a tea party, so however you like your scones, we hope
you treat yourselves on National Cream Tea Day.
