A Visit to Sheppy’s Cider

07 May 2021

When you think about things that Somerset is famous for, cider must be near the top of the list – even the nickname of Somerset County Cricket team is The Cidermen.

Sheppy’s is one of the best-loved and world renowned cider producers in our area, where a fabulous range of award-winning ciders, with flavours to tickle and tantalise even the most discerning palates are created. Ciders may be making a comeback nationally these days but here, in the heart of Somerset, did it ever really go out of fashion?

While Sheppy’s continues to develop delicious cider, it has grown into a visitor attraction that welcomes the whole family. The beautiful orchards that extend to over 90 acres provide a haven for wildlife and offer a special place for a nature walk, delighting children with sightings of farm animals and their young and, not forgetting the gorgeous donkeys, Mary and Scrumpy. A cider orchard in spring when the trees are covered in profuse clusters of delicate pink and white blossom is a sight to behold.

After a stroll through the trees or a meander to the duck pond, the café beckons with delicious cakes and savouries and no visit to Sheppy’s would be complete without calling in to the House of Cider farm shop which sells mouth-watering delights, home-reared meats and local produce.

If you’re interested in the process of cider making you can book onto one of the guided tours that will give you a fascinating insight into the method and history behind it.
