Take a moment, if you please, to reminisce. When you reach back into the mists of your childhood, what special companion kept you company?

Perhaps it was the charming puppet that magically came to life on your mother’s hand. A set of colourful blocks in various shapes, infinitely fascinating to grasp and manipulate. A cheerful train, graceful doll, or the beaming face and gentle touch of an animal friend offering comfort, security, and companionship.

Who would have thought that a craze 100 years old creation would still be as popular today as it was in the beginning of its life. How strange that an animal as ferocious in the wild has inspired the creation of such a soft and cuddly creature, a powerful emotive symbol of childhood, or of love between two people. The teddy bear, who began life as a mascot for the American president, Theodore Roosevelt, is now universally accepted as a child's playmate and confidante. Today it features in millions of books, songs, comic strips, and films; he is used in children's therapy, and is a subject of "artophil", a new hobby. (The word "arctophily" is derived from the Greek words "arctos", which means bear and "philos", which means love.)

Because of this everlasting love with the “teddy bear”, Elaine Moodie decided to, in June of 1999, open The Gorge Bear Co in Cheddar Gorge.

In 2004 Elaine opened World of Bears in Somerset’s County Town Taunton; this store being a true destination store with life size animals.

Now customers come all over the country to pay us a visit we are known best for our customer Service, reputation, huge selection of soft toys, collectible bears and competitive prices.

I look back and think I am so pleased we took that chance, because my aim is to make people smile and feel happy in my shops, people adopt bears for all sorts of reasons sometimes not happy ones. If I can make someone smile I have done my job, which gives me the biggest pleasure of all.

Elaine and her wonderful team at The Gorge Bear Co and World of Bears would like to extend an invitation for you to visit her and her many beary friends, over eighteen thousand in fact! Don't be surprised if your breath is taken away as you enter either of her shops.

The Gorge Bear Co and World of Bears are renowned for being the best and biggest teddy bear stores most people will have ever visited. There is something suitable for everyone, from young to old, and something for everyone’s budget.

Both stores have areas dedicated to each major manufacturer; this combined with excellent knowledge makes her stores the leading specialist “teddy bear and friends” retailer in the UK. The range caters for all ages from newborn to the discerning collector. For you to pick up, cuddle and love and for you to choose your favourite face.

Now all these teddy bears and friends are personally selected by me and cuddled of course! Over 4,250 products are available on-line. Hence, yes we do have most of our on-line brochure in stock.
