Unique Accommodation

One of the highlights of Katy Hill’s time as a presenter of BBC’s Blue Peter was, she says, staying in a yurt in Mongolia. Luckily for Katy she has been able to replicate the unusual experience closer to home with a visit to Somerset which is fast becoming a destination of choice for people really wanting to get away from it all by sleeping out in the stunning countryside.

There are a growing number of holiday accommodation providers in the County who have complemented their beautiful surroundings – often on working farms – with a range of authentic camping options such as gypsy caravans, genuine yurts, tipis, converted railway carriages, log cabins and the latest – E-dens. Part canvas, part wood and part steel, the E-den is made by a Somerset master craftsman to make perfect use of space and light. It has featured on Channel 4’s Amazing Spaces.

Staying in these unique places is often enhanced by ancient and basic comforts such as camp fires but most also enjoy the modern essentials of hot showers and working toilets.
