Whatever your favoured walking terrain, Somerset and Exmoor can satisfy: coastal, canal side, craggy or carpeted in wild flowers. Whether you prefer a formal, well-trodden trail from A to B or a circular ramble taking in a village inn, this area has a stock of footpaths that will suit.

There are wildlife walks, those on a literary theme and others linking similar spots such as the Two Moors Way. Among the best known longer routes are the South West Coast Path, Coleridge Way, Two Moors Way and Parrett Trail. A number of Exmoor towns have Walkers are Welcome accreditation and many of the area’s beaches allow dogs all year.
