The Wookey House

3 School Mews, School Hill, Wookey Hole, BA5 1BZ, Wells

Description

Close to Wells, this mews cottage is built into the hillside and lies in an area with many leisure activities and attractions.

The Wookey House

It is just a short stroll down to the village with its amenities and the famous Wookey Hole Caves and the paper mill, shop, pub and restaurant 500 yards.

Situated at the top of a no-through lane in the village of Wookey Hole, this attractive mews house offers a blend of old character and contemporary comforts. Formerly comprising the old village school house, these mews houses are built on a slope. ‘Upside-down’ in style, this property has stairs leading down to the living room and kitchen area, with patio doors leading out to the terrace.

Dogs are well catered for, with a dog shower, dog beds and bowls and a secure courtyard garden.

Outside you will find a flat, level tarmac parking area with one designated parking space with a walk of a few metres to the front door. More free shared parking is available on School Hill. Up two small steps and through the front door to tiled entrance lobby. In the lobby you will find a cupboard to hang coats and store boots, and as the boiler is here wet weather gear dries wonderfully well. The Dog/welly shower is stored in here and just needs attaching to the outside tap just to the left of the front door.

From the lobby you have easy access straight into each bedroom and bathroom, making it a simple task to unload the luggage, children and dogs from the car!

For everyone's safety there is a built in stair gate at the top of the stairs, perfect for children and dogs alike!

In bedroom one you choose the layout – we can make it a twin room with 2x 3’ single beds or one super kingsize for those couples who prefer the extra space; please make sure you specify when you book. In addition you have a wardrobe with hanging, shelves and drawers and 2 towels per guest.

In bedroom two to your right you will find a very comfortable double bed, a large wardrobe with hanging and drawers, a suitcase stand and 2 towels each for your stay.

In the main open plan living area simple design, classic style and warm oak flooring give this room an open, sunny and relaxing feel for your break away. The lounge and dining area makes for a comfortable sit down-with large windows and patio doors opening out to the sunny courtyard garden.

In the courtyard garden you will find a gas BBQ, and comfortable garden furniture for you to enjoy the peace and quiet in the evening sunshine.

The kitchen has a fridge, small freezer, washing machine with combined dryer, gas hob & oven and dishwasher and is full of quality equipment for you to enjoy making simple meals at breakfast or more lavish dinners should you decide to stay in. You will find a larder cupboard full of basics such as pepper/salt, oil, herbs etc so that you can enjoy your cooking, and with a large dining table you will have plenty of room to spread out with friends and family.

In the main bathroom you will find a bath, shower, basin and wc with bath mat and hand towels provided. We have a night light plugged in to the lobby making night time trips to the bathroom that little bit easier and safer.

The Wookey House is set in an area rich in nature, and bursting with culture and history. Set in the historic village of Wookey Hole where footpaths lead from your door to the beauty of the Mendip Hills and Ebbor Gorge. Just a couple of miles from Britain's smallest city, a couple more to the exotic gem that is Glastonbury, and where the corner of every country lane hides another idyllic village.

If Kent is the Garden of England, then Somerset is the field behind the wall at the bottom of the garden, just waiting for you to hop over and explore it's fields, lanes and villages, and where the pace of life is kept to a gentle stroll.

In these pages, we have given a taste of what there is to find here. The countryside is all around you, rich in wildlife and easily accessable. No visit to the area would be complete without an adventure into the Caves in Wookey Hole, a climb up to the top of Glastonbury Tor, a visit to the extraordinary scissor arches in Wells Cathedral, all washed down with some local cider.
