We bought The White House after falling in love with the area and this wonderful Grade II listed 17thCentury old coaching house. We have furnished it with love to provide both a wonderful home for their family and a luxurious get away for our guests.
We pride ourselves on a warm friendly welcome, excellent food and luxurious accommodation with the relaxation and indulgence of our guests at the heart of all we do. We are able to offer a highly personalised service and if anything isn’t exactly to your liking, we do our utmost to deal with it then and there.
The first record of The Whitehouse is in 1696, when John West an “inn-holder” of Wells leased the ale house beside the west mill. In this tiny community he served his beer from a room in this house, and this early-style pub was the social hub of the working community.”
Between 1889 and 1914 the property is listed as a public house not an inn, proprietors Richard and Sarah Pointing.
Folklore continues the story in that when Richard Pointing died, Sarah didn’t wish to continue to run The White Horse as a public house and so changed the “R” on the sign outside to a “U”, hence changing the name to “The White House” as it is know today…….
