The Masons Arms

My partner and I had been running pubs together for ten years as managers for various breweries before we found The Masons Arms. It is a picture postcard pub in a very pretty ham stone village in an area full of tourist attractions and places of natural beauty such as Ham Hill (where the stone comes from). We instantly fell in love with the pub and knew we had to buy it. We were then overwhelmed by the welcome we received from the villagers who have helped us in so many ways since our arrival; from John, our unconventional vicar, who broadcast details of the opening night from the pulpit to Sheila, our local artist, who has allowed us to use her beautiful paintings of the pub; not to mention help with websites, posters, all matters chicken-related, and provision of local honey, fish and vegetables all from talented and generous customers/villagers. The pub is also our home and we love being a part of village life.

The popularity of our pub stems from the talents of our kitchen team coupled with attention to customer service from our front of house team and not forgetting the conscientious efforts of my cleaning brigade! My husband and I value our staff and make sure their efforts are appreciated and I think this reflects in their attitude to work and customers creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for you to relax in.

We have always used fresh local produce for our menus and whilst it is a formula that has grown fashionable in recent years it has always been successful for us. My husband, Drew, is also the brewer, producing fabulous ales that are available across our bar and have just been started getting bottled. My job is everything else including writing text for websites and of course making time to walk my dogs and cause chaos in our narrow country lanes. (Traffic calming Odcombe style!)

When you visit us I am sure you will experience the villagers welcoming and generous spirit whilst you enjoy a pint or two in the bar or stroll around the village itself. We will always make you welcome, but the soul of a pub comes from those who patronise it not just those who pull your pint!

We welcome your doggy companions and they are allowed in all areas of the pub and all of our accommodation and if staying with us you will find the essentials provided such as dog beds and water bowls as well as a guide and maps so you can enjoy walking in our fabulous countryside. There is a dedicated and fully enclosed exercise area but we ask that your dogs are kept on lead at all other times around the property for the comfort of other dogs and guests.

We  have 6 rooms, all on the ground floor (although there are a few steps along the corridor) and they are situated next to the garden and away from the road, not that there is much traffic in Odcombe! Our rooms are furnished to luxury standard with oak furniture, bathrobes, free toiletries, mini fridge with complimentary water and bottled beer, ceiling fan for those long hot English summers (!) as well as a desk area with direct dial telephone and internet access. We have the following room choices:

- 1 single with ensuite
- 2 doubles with en-suite bath/shower
- 1 double with walk-in shower (suitable for people with mild disabilities)
- 1 twin with bath/shower
- 1 family room with bath/shower (double bed and a double sofa bed which is suitable for either 2 children under 12 years old or 1 adult)

We serve a fabulous breakfast of cereals, croissants, cooked breakfast using local produce and free range eggs accompanied by juice, tea and coffee. It's a meal sure to set you up for your day! Breakfast is served for residents  between 7.30am and 10am in the main restaurant area. A breakfast tray can be provided in your room if you prefer with cereals, fruit, yoghurt and juice, please just ask a member of staff the night before and they will arrange for it to be delivered ready for the morning.

Dogs Welcome:

Dogs are welcome to stay with you in our accommodation for a small charge of £10 per night (this covers up to 3 dogs per room). A Doggy Welcome Pack will be waiting for their arrival with a dog bed, blanket, water bowl, feeding mat and a guide with local information including walks from the pub. We also have an enclosed dedicated exercise area so you can allow them off lead safely. At all other times we ask that you keep your dog on lead for the safety and comfort of other dogs and guests. I am likely to have anything else you might have forgotten or need such as towels or spare leads, please just ask. Your dog can be left in your room or join you for your meals including breakfast. In the unlikely event that your beloved pooch causes any damage this would have to be paid for in full.
