Traditional treats still proving popular on Pier

It’s not always the ‘next big thing’ that draws visitors to top tourist attractions, as Weston-super-Mare’s Grand Pier has discovered this summer.
Family fairground favourite candy floss has proved particularly popular as guests have been keen to enjoy a traditional flavour of seaside holidays and day trips in 2019.
Record August Bank Holiday temperatures saw the seafront attraction enjoy the best long weekend for at least a decade in terms of footfall and spend.
Marketing Manager Lucy Graham said: “The sunshine tends to drive people outdoors, so it’s not surprising that while there was an increase in the amount being spent on the amusements on the Pier in August, the spend on the food and beverage offer was up by 16 percent.
Lucy added: “We have been introducing new products, like Churros and donuts loaded with different delicious toppings, to help us keep up with visitor trends and demands, but it’s interesting that we have seen candy floss being very popular this summer, as people have been wanting to enjoy the traditional funfair/seaside experience.
“In saying that, even our candy floss range has been expanded, with the introduction this summer of some new flavours, such as lemon, sour apple, pink vanilla and blue raspberry.”
With autumn approaching the Pier is now focusing on its appeal as an all-weather, all-year-round attraction and will soon be introducing a number of new seasonal product lines that will offer guests a more autumnal experience.
