Local leisure centres celebrate successful reopening

24 Sep 2020

Blackbrook Leisure Centre and Spa, Taunton Swimming Pool, Wellsprings Leisure Centre and Wellington Sports Centre run by Everyone Active in partnership with Somerset West and Taunton Council reopened their doors on Saturday 25th July after four months of closure due to the UK wide lockdown. The reopening measures, including one-way systems, enhanced cleaning regimes and structured sessions have been received with great positivity from members.

Numbers through the doors show that members were keen to get back in the gym, with 85% of fitness suite users already returning to the gyms across the centres.

Attendance in group exercise classes across the centres have also been well received with classes operating at over 72% capacity. Due to increasing demand, additional classes have now been added to the timetable from September 2020.

In addition, swimming lessons and bookable lane swimming are proving popular. Since the pools fully reopened across the leisure centres in August, lessons are at over 81% capacity and lane swimming at the facilities has seen over 5532 visits.

Mark Washington, Contract Manager at Everyone Active, commented: “The response we’ve received from our members has been overwhelmingly positive and we’re so pleased to see many new and returning members through our doors.

“Our doors are open to everyone and we’re happy to provide tours for anyone who would like to visit our centres to see the changes we’ve implemented to keep everyone safe.”
