Luna explores Somerset

26 Oct 2024

Ben Pulletz is a 22 year old nature photographer, entrepreneur and now author from Charlton Adam in Somerset. He started Feathers & Hills to showcase his work and creativity to a wider audience. Ben won his first international award in 2021, becoming the Under 20 category winner in the Siena international photo awards, progressing to a recent collaboration with the RSPB and Co-op. In the Spring collaboration Ben worked with Co-op and the RSPB on a range of six greeting cards using his nature photography.

Ben’s aim is to promote the natural world through his character Luna the Globetrotter. Ben originally had the idea of Luna last year when he was out photographing Roe Deer near his home. With a lifelong ambition to create a children’s character and book, he was very eager and excited to make a start on this project. Passionate about nature, Ben has installed several owl boxes around his local area.

In the story, Luna travels through the historic and timeless county of Somerset, a county steeped in myths, history legends and beautiful countryside. From its ancient landmarks, its thriving new businesses, Somerset is a county of contrasts that offers something for everyone. In this book, Luna takes readers on a meandering journey as she visits locations that are the beating heart of the county. It’s an adventure that is packed with fun, energy, travel and meeting new nature characters, with also a message on recycling and a keen eye on promoting the natural world.

Ben added; “I’m starting Luna’s journey in Somerset, the county where I have lived most of my life and I am extremely excited to launching my new character. I want everybody to be talking about this book. Luna is funny, eye catching and cute, she is becoming popular to both adults and children!”

Giles Adams, Chair of Visit Somerset said. ”This is a delightful and creative story, conceived here in Somerset and it perfectly captures the excitement of visiting many of our unique visitor attractions.” Alexia James from Wells Cathedral, one of the venues that Luna visits in the book added “ Luna’s story is a unique take on the rich tapestry of Somerset.”

With humour in the book, mission, quiz, a funny storyline and new characters this will hopefully engage children with nature, wherever you live.
