Celebrate the 60th birthday of the Fleet Air Arm Museum with special events this May half term

This May half term the Fleet Air Arm Museum is celebrating its 60th birthday, and everyone’s invited. Build historic aircraft from bricks, see a giant balloon Concorde, and enjoy a brand new free virtual exhibition exploring the museum’s rich history. 
 

The Fleet Air Arm Museum, Balloon Bonanza, Monday 27th May 2024 and Tuesday 28th May 2024 10:30am to 12:30pm, and 1pm to 3pm 

No birthday celebration is complete without balloons. The Fleet Air Arm Museum is teaming up with balloon artist David Croft for a special event under Concorde. Visitors will get the chance to see a giant balloon Concorde, alongside the chance to take home their own balloon aircraft. This event is free with a valid museum ticket. 

 

The Fleet Air Arm Museum, Build your own aircraft, Wednesday 29th May 2024 to Friday 31st May 2024 

This event, in collaboration with Brick Ideas, will have visitors getting creative under Concorde, giving them the chance to build their own brick aircraft. Take inspiration from a favourite from the largest collection of naval aircraft in Europe, or create something never seen before. This event is free with a valid museum ticket. 

 

The Fleet Air Arm Museum, The Fleet Air Arm Museum at 60 – Virtual exhibition, Tuesday 28th May 2024 to Sunday 1st September 2024 

Delve into the history of the Fleet Air Arm Museum for its 60th birthday with a special virtual exhibition, accessible at the museum or from the comfort of your own home. The Collections Explorer App already explores the fascinating history of the museum’s collection, and this new exhibition will shift the focus onto the museum itself. The Fleet Air Arm Museum, Conservation In Action - Behind the Scenes Tour, Thursday 6th June 2024 10:30am and 2pm 

Hosted by the museum’s Principal Conservator of Naval Aircraft David Morris, this behind-the-scenes tour offers an in-depth look at the exciting conservation projects undertaken by the museum. Guests will get the chance to tour the galleries looking at the various projects, from the discovery of a whole new colour scheme on the Corsair KD431, to the unique rebuild of Fairey Barracuda DP872. This event lasts for approximately two hours and costs £30 per person, museum access is included on the day of your visit. Tickets are limited for June, but if you miss out dates are still available in September and December.
