The 2019 Saltford Festival is fast approaching.

12 May 2019

Most events are free, but some are ticketed and these are now on sale at Saltford Community PO/Library, Saltford Hall or online here.

We've had a great response to the Photographic Competition and we will give you till the end of Friday 3 May to send in any more.  The same goes for the Short Story Competitionand the Open Gardens on 8 June 2019.  Please get in touch before the end of Friday if you want to enter any of these.

As in previous Festivals we are looking for loads of scarecrows (sporty themed thsi time) to be put up around the village.  If you want to get involved and have your scarecrow included on the official map then please click here for details.

Finally a couple of other appeals connected with the Festival :

1.  Wine & Cheese Evening with a clothes and accessories sale alongside on Monday 11 June 2019 - if you have any good quality clothes, handbags and accessories that you would like to donate or if you would like a rail to sell your own items then please email Angela.
2.   Food Festival on 15 June 2019 - do you know someone who would like a stall at our first food festival?  Then email Joyce for details.  This event will also include butchery and cookery demonstrations
3.  Old Village Day Street Market on 16 June 2019 - there are a few stalls still available. Please email Lynn to find out more details
4    Old Village Day - if you would like to volunteer to help at the Old Village Day we are looking for helpers, stewards and marshals. Please email if you are interested.
Moving on to other items, our thanks to everyone who has already responded generously to the donation appeal in the April/May edition of SCAN. If you want to help the footpath appeal see below or monthly donation form for the community PO/Library.  We are also delighted to announce that the Jolly Sailer have launched daily breafasts from 9-11am and on Sunday 5 May have agreed that 35% of their entire breakfast income that day will be donated to Saltford Community PO/Library.  We look forward to seeing you there and here is a link to the menu.

With the replacement of both main boilers at Saltford Hall required in the summer at a cost of £25,000 we are grateful to Waitrose for agreeing to one of the "green token" boxes being to help fund this.  Whenever you use Waitrose during May please ask for a large handful of green tokens and deposit them in our box for a share of a £1000.
As you will see below we have lots more to entertain you over the next few weeks leading up to the 2019 Saltford Festival. We have recently been putting a lot of time and money into enhancing the sound accompanying films and judging by the very happy film goers last Friday at Mary Poppins Returns we have been successful so why not come along and see/hear for yourself.

We look forward to seeing you at Saltford Hall.
Sunday’s can be the worst day of the week if you are on your own. So if you would like some company and a good old chat, why not come along to the Avon Room at Saltford Hall and share a ‘cuppa and cake’ on Sunday 5th May from 2pm to 4pm.  For more information ring Julia Chandler on 0117 9837825. Numbers attending are growing each time.
The Computer Cafe will be open again on Monday 13 May at Saltford Hall from 10.00 till noon.  So if you want to improve your knowledge of your PC, laptop, tablet or phone, want help with emails, WORD documents, internet browsing, Skype etc, then why not come on down with your device.   Our great volunteers will be on hand to try and help and please don't all turn up at 10am as there may be a queue for help as we try and give everyone at least 30 minutes one to one assistance. Each session is just £4 and includes unlimited tea/coffee and biscuits.
Owing to a delay in the release of the planned film, Saltford Community Cinema's next screening has been changed to the beautifully acted and delightful film "Edie" starring Sheila Hancock. Be warned if you come and see this film you are likely to laugh, fall in love with Scotland and perhaps even have a tear in your eye at times.
The screening will be at Saltford Hall on Saturday 18th May with doors opening for ice creams and drinks at 6:45pm and the film starting at 7:30pm.
Tickets are £5 and only available on the door.
For a taste of what to expect here is the Official Trailer.
The next film on Tuesday 11 June during the Festival is going to be a very interactive showing of the singalong version of The Greatest Showman.
The current SCAN magazine launches the annual footpath donation appeal to keep over 4.5km of permissive paths open for another year.  Once again we need to raise £3000.  Thanks to your generousity we reached the target last year and therefore the paths will stay open till the end of October 2019.

If you regularly use any of these footpaths and wish to donate, then please either pick up a donation envelope from Saltford Hall or use the one in the latest SCAN or go to our website where a specific section can be found at Permissive Paths and a downloadable donation sheet. It needs just need 100 people to donate an average of £25, plus Gift Aid, to reach our target. This is a small price to pay for continuing to enjoy over 4.5km of footpaths between Saltford and Keynsham.
