Fine dining and gourmet meals are on the menu at Exmoor Character Cottages this Spring

26 Mar 2021

As we now get used to the idea of going on holiday again but don’t quite fancy the idea of eating out just yet, Lucy Green, owner of Exmoor Character Cottages, has whipped up a few foodie ideas to whet the appetite of guests at her four self-catering holiday cottages. And there’s delicious Somerset and South West produce on the menu.

Private Chef Ben is Serving up the Works
With an enviable contact book of little gems and unique food producers, Lucy has teamed up with Thir13een, developed by Chef Ben and his partner Isabella, to serve up an exclusive gourmet experience for guests staying in the luxury holiday homes in Dunster and Minehead.

Your Exclusive table at Exmoor Character Cottages
Lucy stays close to her guests, many of whom revisit every year, and has found growing demand for in-cottage dining and food experiences. Some guests simply aren’t ready to eat out, and there’s also a concern about the weather for outdoor dining when the cottages welcome guests on 12th April. Re-opening the hospitality sector during 2021 means all local pubs and restaurants will be permitted to serve food outside and can erect marquees as cover for the uncertain climate. But when guests book a stay at Exmoor Character Cottages, the dining table – whether inside or in the pretty gardens and courtyard - is exclusively theirs for everyone to gather round and savour the moment.

New on the menu at Exmoor Character Cottages for 2021
  • Gourmet Food to Go (from April 2021)
  • Fine dining in your cottage with Private Chef Ben (estimated from summer 2021)
  • Cooking with Kids (estimated from Summer 2021)
  • Autumn and Winter Food Breaks

The new gourmet experiences are sheer luxury but from a very reasonable £40 per head for a three-course meal prepped and served by Chef Ben. All menus can be customised to each group’s preferences and special dietary requirements. Go here to find out more about our fine in cottage dining experiences and pre-prepared meal deliveries.

Learn cooking skills from a professional during your holiday!
As more people have spent time cooking during lockdown, Lucy wanted to introduce some half day workshops where Ben can share his skills. Now guests can learn to make brilliant bread, cure their own south west farmed salmon, knock up their own pasta and make a delicious dessert:

Cooking with kids!
These customised and fun workshops are perfect for all skill levels. And in response to guest feedback, there are two options for kids of all ages to make a pizza base or pasta and a simple sauce. That’s dinner sorted! Useful know how.

Lucy says: “Sharing great food with family and friends is one of the real pleasures in life and especially after a year of social isolation. Food is increasingly a real draw to Exmoor and when our guests visit, they like to savour local specialities and their food favourites. We always recommend great places to eat locally, and now in response to customer demand, we’ve added a whole raft of new experiences around food, from ordering excellent quality ready meals for the family, to hiring a private chef for the night, to learning a whole new range of cooking skills – even for the kids. We can even cater for celebrations and special occasions! We’re so excited to launch these as we come out of lockdown 3, and hope they’ll add to the joy of holidaying in this beautiful part of the country.”
