We are from Dust ArtSpace at Ashton Court

06 Jul 2021

You may have noticed some art popping up at Ashton Court during the dark winter period. Now you get to find out what it all means!
On June 7th We Are From Dust and Artspace launched the last of their art installations at Ashton Court, with a specially created poem ‘We are from Dust’ by Dr Edson Burton, played a motion sensor activated audio installation developed by local designer and academic Drew Batchelor.
In May 2021 when restrictions were lifted, We are From Dust were finally able to install ‘Trasparenza’, Temple of Transparency. The sculpture celebrates emerging from darkness into light. It is a large experiential installation that takes a chapel-like form, which visitors can enter and enjoy both inside and out. It is a playful and whimsical tribute to the genius of Leonardo da Vinci and the glories of the Italian Renaissance, a Florentine Folly.
Yomi Ayeni, founder of We are from Dust and curator of the ArtSpace said “We knew that Trasparenza was the key to showcasing our vision, but had to wait almost 12 months for it to arrive at Ashton Court. While our initial goal is to use public art exhibitions to change lives, perspectives, and create new destinations, the addition of Edson’s poem takes this intervention to new heights. It encapsulates our hopes, dreams, and prayers for a brighter future.”
To celebrate the final piece in place Artspace Lifespace and We are From Dust are hosting an evening showcase at Ashton Court on July 17th from 7pm-9.30pm of the Artspace Ashton Court sculpture installations framed by circus performances and a showcase of ‘Luma’ from local artists Air Giants.

“When Artspace Lifespace first took on Ashton Court and someone asked what my hopes were it was that people would have a place to make and show work, that we would help towards ensuring a future of Ashton Court for generations to come and that we would help develop a sculpture park at Ashton Court,” said Kathryn Chiswell Jones, Company Manager of Artspace Lifespace. “We’re thrilled to welcome back Air Giants on July 17th to showcase the work they developed at Ashton Court during the pandemic as part of our celebration event. Partnering with We are From Dust has helped make our dreams for Ashton Court a reality and we’re hugely grateful to the Bristol Parks team for supporting our vision.”
