An interactive, fun and supportive day out for people whose lives are touched by dementia is being held on Saturday February 1 in Pill.
Families, carers, anyone living with dementia or affected by the condition can enjoy relaxing in a safe and friendly environment enjoying activities and a chance to meet others from North Somerset whose lives are affected by dementia.
It is the second free event organised by Clevedon-based Kubiak Dementia Foundation, which was set up by a family to provide support for local people. The event will be held in the Garden Room Wing of Penny Brohn UK in Chapel Hill, Pill.
At the first event in September around 40 people attended enjoying activities including meeting animals, arts and crafts, music, complementary therapies, light refreshments and walks in the enclosed garden.
Victoria Kubiak, whose husband George was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in 2010, set up the foundation in January 2019.
She said: “Finding places for George and the family to visit where he was safe and people understood his behaviour was difficult at first and we soon found other carers and families that just wanted a safe family day out.
“The first event showed how much demand there is in the North Somerset area for such support. Families enjoyed having a moment of calm, various activities or just being able to share experiences. In February we are able to cater for around 100 people. We just need to know who is coming along.
“The event is open to people with dementia, their families of all generations and friends, carers or those who work alongside those with dementia. There will be light refreshments, nature walks, animal interaction, arts and
crafts, music and complementary therapies.
“There will also be talks on topics such as healthy eating, validation techniques, helpful hints and exercise from the chair.”
The Kubiak Family set up the Foundation as a legacy to George who has taught them so much about life through his dementia world.
Find out more by coming along to the event which runs from 10.30 am to 3.30pm on Saturday February 1st. It would be really helpful to tell us of your attendance so please contact or by telephone 01275 876688.
