East Lambrook Manor Gardens. COVID update

19 Jun 2020

The garden itself remains closed as we feel the garden is too small for safe social distancing to be in place at the present time and also it is our home and staff and volunteers are working in the garden most days. Similarly the cafe and gallery remain closed.

However, our nursery, the Margery Fish Plant Nursery, reopened to customers on 19 May, with social distancing markings and a one way system in place and gloves and hand sanitiser available on arrival etc. This followed on from our very successful ‘drive-in’ nursery set up in the car park, which has been in operation now since 3rd April alongside a 'click and collect or deliver’ service, which also proved popular, allowing people to order from a nursery stock list by email or phone in spite of the pandemic. The nursery is open five days a week, from Tuesday to Saturday, opening at 10am and closing at 4pm, one hour earlier than when the garden was open to allow time for watering and cleaning up.

I should add that as everyone seemed to love the ‘drive-in’ and people keep coming back to browse and buy, it is still operating 24/7, allowing customers to select from a range of plants and pay using an honesty box or phone to pay by card. Apart from one night when the whole lot was upended and some plants stolen everyone has been completely honest and it has been a great way to meet people and promote the nursery proper - albeit at a safe distance!
