Number 4

The magnificent City of Bath, Somerset's largest city, is ranked at number 4, with The Roman Baths and Bath Thermae Spa being mentioned as its primary attractions. Bath has long been recognized for its beautiful Georgian architecture and historical offerings, but it also has all you need for a wonderful city break, including independent shops, a vibrant arts and culture scene and a variety of museums and galleries.

The American Museum and Gardens is uniquely the only museum of America outside the United States. It has a collection of over 200 American quilts, along with folk and decorative arts. Their new American Garden has Native American shrubs, perennials and bulbs, and is designed to work with the steep terrain and enhance the view over the Limpley Stoke Valley. It has a wheelchair accessible path, called the Winding Way, which encircles the lawn, threads through the American Rose Collection, and skirts the natural amphitheatre, which will host concerts and outdoor events.

Number 12

Ranked number 12 is the world famous Glastonbury Festival. Worthy Farm is not only a haven for music lovers and those wanting to relish in the weird and wonderful experiences that Glastonbury is renowned for, but an opportunity to relax and chill in the beautiful Somerset countryside. Drawing crowds from far and wide, some of the music industry's top names have performed here, including Jay Z, Paul McCartney, The Smiths and David Bowie.

Those not able to get their hands on the often elusive tickets can head to the Glastonbury Tor, weather permitting, and view the temporary city from on high. If the wind is blowing in the right direction, you can often pick up the humdrum beat of the music.

The town of Glastonbury is synonymous with myths and legends. It offers visitors a spiritual and creative experience, which can rarely be found anywhere else. It has some unique and quirky shops proffering crystals, fairies and all things holistic and healing!

Whilst it is an honour to have these two monumental destinations in our county recognised by the revered Lonely Planet, they are the mere tip of the iceberg of what Somerset can offer both locals and visitors alike. Take a look at the website for more ideas!
