Opening Times &
Summer Outdoor Events
Firstly, all of us here at Glastonbury Abbey hope that you and your family are well. It has been a very strange year for all of us and we hope that you have been able to visit us since the reopening or access some other green, open air spaces and that you are looking with optimism towards the future.
Current Opening Times
We reopened Glastonbury Abbey in stages from June 3rd and now have the whole site open to visitors from Tuesday to Sunday. On weekdays we are open 10am to 4pm and at the weekend 10am to 5.30pm. Last entry is 45mins before closing. We will be open on the Bank Holiday Monday at the end of August from 10am to 5.30pm.
We would much prefer to be open our usual summer hours but the effects on visitor numbers wrought by the COVID-19 pandemic means the cost of staying open longer than we currently are isn't supportable. With the current opening hours we are striking a balance with access and raising much needed funds for the ongoing maintenance and conservation.
Due to government guidance it is a requirement that you wear a face mask while within enclosed buildings at the abbey. This includes the visitor centre, museum, St. Patrick's Chapel and Abbot's Kitchen.

Summer Outdoor Events
We are very pleased to be able to stage some outdoor events at the abbey this year as it looked like we were going to lose the whole season. During August you can see outdoor theatre, outdoor cinema, our annual festival of music and illuminations, Night at the Abbey, and a brand new charity fundraiser called One Enchanted Evening. Tickets are strictly limited to these events so book early to avoid disappointment.
On the 16th of August IK Productions present The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, a brand new and bonkers take on the classic tale. The company have been getting rave reviews and shows are selling out everywhere - click here to book.
The perennial favourite The Greatest Showman will be our outdoor cinema screening this August and doors open at 7pm on the 22nd. There'll be plenty of time before the screening starts so bring a picnic and enjoy the summer weather - click here to book.
Night at the Abbey takes place on Friday the 28th of August and features some amazing acts from across the UK. Due to the government guidance we have had to restrict both the number of attendees but also the number of stages and performers this year. However you will still have three stages and a number of different acts to choose from. Doors open at 5pm and last entry is at 9pm for a 10pm finish. Please enjoy fine drinks from the bar and fine food from the caterers on site while discovering your next favourite band - click here to book.
One Enchanted Evening is a brand new initiative where Somerset's professional theatre and music talent return to the stage in a programme featuring some of the most enchanting numbers from our favourite musicals. This show will bring together superbly talented singers, musicians and dancers to prove that the performing arts are still alive and well in Somerset. One Enchanted Evening founder and organiser, Andrew Wright, is an award-winning choreographer and director. He has invited professionals who combine West End experience with Somerset roots and has created a very special evening to thank all the essential workers and volunteers who kept Somerset safe this year. Arrive from 6.15pm, bring your picnic, chairs and blankets and prepare to be enchanted! This is a fundraising event for local charities that have supported the NHS and people of Somerset through COVID-19 and the lockdown - click here to book.
