Butcombe Brewery to reveal make-over of City Centre pub with exciting new external food offering.
Following a refurbishment at The Ostrich in Redcliffe, Butcombe Brewery will be reopening the iconic Bristol site to the public on 13th April in time for the Bank Holiday weekend.
After acquiring the site in late 2017, Butcombe Brewery soon saw the potential in Bristol’s largest pub garden. In keeping with the colourful surroundings to which the Harbourside is so well-known, customers will be able perch on stripy deck chairs and brightly coloured benches, with barrel tables and festoon lighting hung between trees finishing off the 482-seated area. The most prominent feature will be the new airstream parked alongside where customers can enjoy Americana style street food over the Summer months.
Whilst the outside is set to wow, the inside has not be forgotten either, with a new interior including an antique brass back bar gantry, revived existing timber floor, new artwork mixed with old, and a fresh colour-scheme throughout.
General Manager Joseph Hanna said “As manager at The Cottage, just a short ferry ride away, and seeing that pub go from strength to strength, I’m thrilled to now also be at the helm of The Ostrich, and to be taking it forwards at such an exciting time. During its short closure, the transformation has been amazing, and I think our customers are going to love its new look”.
The pub will re-open with a new food menu under the direction of head chef Jasper Prickett. Jasper who will head up both The Ostrich and The Cottage (another Bristol favourite in the Butcombe Pubs and Inns estate), brings with him a wealth of culinary experience from his time as Exec Chef at The Urban Standard. The menu, with food and beer matching at its heart, will showcase locally sourced food from Bristol and the surrounding areas, combining British pub classics, smoked, grilled and roasted meats, as well as sharing boards and small plates that pair perfectly with beer. From the air-stream expect smash burgers, loaded fries, snacks, soft serve ice cream, as well as boozy ice pops!
Proud of its award-winning beers, the Butcombe beer flight will present THE original beer of Bristol alongside the new Ostrich Ale, and seasonals from the brewery. With a selection of over 30 rums on the bar too, the historical roots of the pub as drinking establishment of choice for many a sailor, merchant and dockworker during the 18th Century, remains part of the fabric of the building.

As such an important landmark in Bristol it was our duty to take The Ostrich to the next level and ensure it is around for many years to come.”
