Over the Easter weekend (19-22 April, 11am-4pm), the National Trust teams at Barrington Court and Lytes Cary Manor will be welcoming everyone to take part in the Cadbury Easter Egg Hunt (£2.50 per person). Hop along with the whole family, follow the clues and finish your adventure with a delicious Cadbury chocolate treat.
Visitors can make the most of the kinder weather and fresh air throughout the school holiday as well. At Barrington Court the family-friendly springtime trail (6-22 April, 10.30am-4pm) will lead you out into the wider parkland, where you can learn how to care for Barrington's beautiful natural habitats. Head down to the Explorers’ trail on the Lytes Cary Manor estate and find out more about the animals that live there too (6-23 April, 10.30am-5pm).
At Montacute House the ranger team are looking for help to survey the wildlife across the garden and park. Aspiring rangers can pick up their pocket booklet from reception and go on a wildlife hunt, making notes of everything they spot along the way (6-23 April, 10.30am-4pm).
There is the opportunity for hands-on gardening by joining the team in the Old Stables to make an eco-pot from newspaper and planting either a sunflower or nasturtium to take home (9, 10, 16 and 17 April, 11am-12.30pm and 1.30-3pm). The Old Stables is also where Montacute’s traditional games can be found throughout the Easter holidays, which include boules, hobby horses, colour a coat of arms and more.
Senior Visitor Experience Officer, Amy Callaghan, said: ‘Spring is such a beautiful time to get out and about in South Somerset. With signs of new life and fresh growth everywhere, it’s great to be outdoors and take a dive into nature. The added excitement of the Cadbury Easter Egg Hunt means there is lots of fun to be had and by taking part, visitors are helping to support all the conservation work that the National Trust does to care for places like Lytes Cary Manor, Barrington Court and Montacute House.’
