Portishead’s beautiful coastal location and proximity to Bristol make it the perfect place for a stop in Somerset. Revel in picturesque scenery, walk historical trails, take a dip in the Portishead lido and go shopping in the historic town centre. You’ll already know the town’s name from the world-famous electronic group that hit the world music scene in the 1990s.

Portishead’s Esplanade is a reminder of the Victiorian splendour the town was long known for. Stroll along the waterfront and spot activity on the shore of Wales on the horizon, then extend your walk around the Marine Lake - families can team up to take out a pedalo and circle the lake’s tiny island. At the north end of the Esplanade you’ll find the Portishead Open Air Pool, a lido that’s heated throughout the summer and offers a range of swimming events for all ages. For more family fun, venture outside the town centre to Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm, where you’ll get up close with animals familiar and exotic. 

Visitors in search of views should head to Battery Point behind the Portishead lido, where you’ll find sweeping scenic vistas across the Bristol Channel in every direction. You might even spot a passing ship - they come close to the shore at this point on the coast. For even more views, take one of the walks along the coast and around Portishead town, including the gentle Priors Wood trail or the more vigorous Black Nore Lighthouse Walk, where your destination is the charming lighthouse of the same name.

Back in Portishead town centre, you’ll find a charming high street lined with well-known brands and independent stores proudly run by locals. When it’s time to grab something to eat and drink, head to Portishead Quays Marina: awarded the highest quality score by The Yacht Harbour Association, it’s home to restaurants and cafés ideal for an evening with friends and family as you gaze across the sails of the yachts moored nearby.
