Description

Opening with the world-famous Grand Regency Costumed Promenade, the Jane Austen Festival is a celebration of Bath’s best-known resident. This annual festival with 80+ events including walks, talks, concerts, workshops, tours, theatricals, and the stunning Regency costumed Masked Ball, with its unique reception by the Roman Baths, attracts over 3000 people during the course of ten days. Events at The Mission Theatre venue include, Austen literary expert and entertaining speaker Professor John Mullan, Regency dance workshops and dance display by the Jane Austen Dancers, new play “Jane Austen and the Cheltonians”, premiere work “Almost Austen” with superb soprano Louise Geller, “Pugs and Prejudice” presentation and one off theatrical finale to be performed by the internationally acclaimed Natural Theatre Company. The very lovely Picture Gallery at the Holburne Museum is the venue for one off musical interpretation “Jane Austen and the Art of Social Distancing”, with soprano Rosie Lomas and historic keyboard specialist Katarzyna Kowalik. Walking tours will be expertly guided by Bath Parade Guides and motorized tours of Austen’s Hampshire, Meryton, Highbury with a little bit of Poldark thrown in, by local expert Adge Secker. Festival favourite Dr Amy Frost will be the guide to Beckford’s Tower, Building Austen’s Bath and discussing Portico or Pigsty: The architecture of Pride & Prejudice in TV and film.
