Exploring trees and woodlands on Exmoor and Dartmoor

Exploring the National Parks

The Arborealists worked in partnership with the Exmoor and Dartmoor National Park Authorities to explore the landscape. The resulting artworks depict many of the parks’ most beautiful and iconic spots.

They include Culbone and Horner Wood, Cloutsham, Wilmersham Common and Simonsbath, on Exmoor. And, Wistmans and White Wood, Burrator Reservoir, Black-a-Tor Copse and Hawson Cross on Dartmoor.

Connecting with Nature

Many of the artists have been mobilised to explore the subject matter of the tree due to the increasing disconnect between people and the natural world. At a time when the news is often filled with reports about environmental destruction, they propose that a personal re-connection to nature is vital in order to awaken and mobilise change. They demonstrate that trees still have a great relevance in contemporary art and retain their power to move us as a vital element in our landscape.
