Priston

Priston is a small village just five miles south of Bath, enveloped by fields which are vibrant with yellow rapeseed flowers in spring and golden with ripening crops in summer. The traditional and friendly Ring o’Bells pub in the centre of the village is a meeting place for locals and visitors alike and serves interesting, quality food and drink.

The rural 12th century church, topped with a golden cockerel, is worth a visit and this could be incorporated into a walk along one of the many public footpaths that that pass through Priston.  These are clearly marked on an OS map of the area.

Priston holds a traditional May Day fete on the first May Bank Holiday each year. This celebration of spring sees children dancing round the Maypole, musical entertainment, family games, food stalls and the famous egg-throwing competition.  A popular music festival, now in its 11th year takes place in September and features music for various tastes, an art project and food stalls.

The community café, run by volunteers, is open each Saturday morning in the village hall, serving tea, coffee, bacon butties and home-made cakes.

A number of houses offer bed and breakfast in Priston for anyone looking for a rural idyll within close reach of Bath.

Please see www.priston.org.uk for dates and times for all of the above and for more information about accommodation.
