Minehead Business Improvement District (BID) is celebrating everything we love about this charming Edwardian seaside town - great events, attractions, accommodation, places to eat and drink, plus a wonderful collection of national and independent shops
Minehead is a charming Edwardian seaside town located on the beautiful south west coastline at the start of the dramatic South West Coast Path. Home to a large Butlins Holiday Village situated about a mile from the town centre which attracts thousands of visitors a year. Minehead has strong assets and opportunities – its stunning mile–long seafront, pretty harbour, boating heritage combined with the charm of the town, its Edwardian and Victorian architecture, attractive Blenheim Gardens at its heart and the wealth of small independent businesses in the town.
The Minehead Business Improvement District (BID) covers the town centre (the retail heart) the seafront, the harbour and some of the out of town retail and tourism organisations on the approach to the town centre. The key objective of the BID is to raise the profile of Minehead as destination for both retail and tourism, in turn to diversify and increase the footfall, spend and viability of the town for all stakeholders.
Minehead beach is perfect for family seaside fun and the promenade - brimming with seaside cafés, bars and shops - offers spectacular views across to North Hill. For waterparks, traditional fairgrounds and nostalgic holiday activities, Butlins Minehead is the place to be, making memories since 1962. Just a short stroll from the seafront you’ll find Blenheim Gardens, Minehead’s largest park and The Avenue, the main shopping street, offering a variety of shops, bars and restaurants.
For a quieter affair, follow the promenade to the historic harbour It originated as a small port in the late 1300’s, and now hosts summer pleasure boat cruises on the paddle steamer Waverley and motor vessel Balmoral. For those seeking an adventure, Minehead also offers a range of sporting facilities including sailing, wind surfing and golf.
Wind your way through the old town’s narrow paths past ‘chocolate box’ thatched cottages to St Michael’s Church and steps, built in the 14th or 15th Century, to admire panoramic views across the town and bay. If you’re a keen walker, Minehead is ideally situated to explore Exmoor and the Quantock Hills. The nation's longest long-distance countryside walking trail, the South West Coast Path, starts here and is the perfect way to observe wildlife and admire the ever-changing dramatic landscapes.
Don’t miss a trip on the Minehead’s West Somerset Railway which originally opened in 1874 and is now England’s longest heritage line. Experience the beautifully-restored railway engines and carriages on the 20-mile route which takes you through stunning Somerset countryside and coastlines.
Come and meet the friendly and helpful team based in The Beach Hotel. We're a stone's throw away from the seafront, just opposite West Somerset Steam Railway.
We sell a range of local maps, walking guides and information leaflets to help you make the most of your stay. We also stock a range of local crafts so you can take home a memento of your time in Minehead.
