Coastal walks, Street Art and other amazing discoveries around Weston-super-Mare

We start in Weston-super-Mare at the town’s newly refurbished museum just back from the seafront in Burlington Street. With free entry, this is the ideal base from which to learn about the town and surrounding area that will give great context for your two day discovery. With 50,000 objects there is no shortage of diversity!

Weston-super-Mare has had many famous residents and visitors over the years, one of the latter is well known for the mystery around them……Banksy created a temporary exhibition ‘Dismaland’ a few years ago and this has left a legacy of some interesting street art.

A one hour walking tour will take you on an easy journey around these sites and sights.

Sea air always stimulates hunger, so it’s time for lunch! The Royal Hotel offers various options including The Royal Grill, CJ’s Bar or the Royal Snack Shack on the front.

After lunch, we recommend taking the bus from the seafront up to Sand Point. This 4 mile walk will take up to 2.5 hours and is medium to hard difficulty. It will reward with wonderful views and sense of openness.

For your overnight stay, we are back to the Royal Hotel for Georgian splendour and hospitality. It’s your chance to really experience the traditional atmosphere of the town, with superb views of the coast and the Italian gardens.

We start with a visit to the unique Helicopter Museum which contains the largest dedicated helicopter collection in the world. If you are bright and breezy in the morning then you could walk there which will take an hour, however there is also an easy bus route from Stafford Road.

As well as the displays, there is a programme of events that is well worth checking out in advance, including open cockpit days and vehicle rallies.

There is a café on site, however you can alternatively continue on with our tour by taking the bus back into town and then hopping on the southward route to Uphill. The Ship Inn is the oldest pub in Weston-super-Mare. Check www.theshipinnuphill.com for latest information on menus and opening times.

It’s a 5 minute walk to Uphill Boat Yard that will link you up for an afternoon walk ‘Exploring the tidal trail around Uphill’. This easy circular walk is a favourite with locals that rewards with breathtaking views and experiences of nature. It is about 2.5 miles and will take around an hour. A loop off the walk around the church and higher ground is a popular addition.
Once finished, it’s an easy bus journey back into Weston-super-Mare.
