Activity weekend in North Somerset

Activity weekend in North Somerset

Day 1

You’ve arrived in North Somerset, brimming with adrenaline that needs burning off!

If it’s mountain biking that you are after, then a good place to start is at Ashton Gate Estate where you can hire bikes at Pedal Progression. The great thing is that they give tuition, so if this is a new thing for you, it gives the chance to get safe and build confidence before setting out to enjoy the challenging scenery. Advanced skills coaching allows further personal development.

The Ashton Court Trail and Leigh Woods offer a number of exciting unofficial trails – a great source of detailed information can be found below.

Whilst at Ashton Court Estate, you might be interested in playing golf, foot golf or disc golf.

FootGolf is an activity that's open to everyone. Players kick a football into a golf cup in as few shots as possible. It follows golf's scoring system where the lowest individual or team score is the winner.

Disc Golf is an activity that's open to everyone. Players throw a weighted disc, like a Frisbee, at a target, and aim to reach the target in as few throws as possible. It follows golf’s scoring system where the player with the lowest score is the winner.

If you burn lots of energy then we think this lunch tip might be just down your street. If you travel south on the A38 you will chance upon the Lye Cross Farm Shop – where you have two options. If you want to keep on the move, then you can buy hot pastries and sandwiches but if you want to linger awhile, then the novel Bus Café provide a great range of straightforward lunch options.

Have you ever thought about climbing but not sure where or how to start? Then the stunning Burrington Combe is the place for you, which is just a few minutes drive from Lye Cross.  Suitable for beginners and families, you can choose whether to spend just a couple of hours or a full weekend. Situated on the northern edge of the Mendip Hills, the Limestone crags will ensure invigorating exercise and unforgettable views. Make sure you book in advance with Adventure Café.

Our recommendation for overnight is the Double Tree by Hilton, Cadbury House at Congresbury. This boasts a Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar and Grill as well as an award-winning health club and spa to sooth your tired muscles!

Day 2

West Country Games does pretty well what the title suggests! It’s great for adult groups (minimum of 8 persons), so if you have the desire for fun you can sign up  for 9 totally unique themed games from the Cider Run to Mangold Danglin’ – yes you are in Somerset now! If you’ve wanted to know everything about Welly Wanging then you have come to the right place! Check here -

Another great way to enjoy the outdoors, fresh air and unique scenery is by cycling. There is a wide choice of routes, such as the Brean Down Way which starts in the middle of Weston-super-Mare. There is also the Strawberry Line which is a disused railway line with many options for sightseeing along the Mendip Hills.

There is an interesting route from Portishead  to Bristol which gives the opportunity to admire Clifton Suspension Bridge. The Visitor Centre tells the story of this famous engineering spectacle.

Skateboarding might be your thing. Hutton Moor in Weston-super-Mare is free and suits all ages -
Alternatively, Jubilee Park features concrete banks and ledges, a well as metal quarter pipe, on tarmac base.
